So those of us who have a strong [faith] must be patient with the weaknesses of those whose [faith] is not so strong. We must not think only of ourselves. We should all be concerned about our neighbor and the good things that will build his faith. Romans 15:1-2 (GW)

Do the small things matter?  Should I correct someone’s grammar or ask them to chew with their mouth closed?  (Of course, this does not apply to children!)  I try to think about the long-term effects of my actions.  Right now it would make me REALLY happy if they stopped an annoying habit, but how will that affect my ability to minister to them later?  If I am patient and kind in spite of what they are doing, maybe I will have an opportunity to talk to them about Jesus.

This way of thinking can be used for just about everything. It’s not my job to determine why someone is acting out or living their life a certain way.  It is my responsibility to encourage others, help build their faith, and every action should direct them toward Jesus.

Romans 14 and 15 are great reading to get your mind in the right place.  Don’t overthink it.  Sometimes it is enough just to be nice.
