I was doing chores this weekend, and in the middle of vacuuming, I started wondering how much time I have spent in my life doing mundane things. Maybe that thought should be frustrating, but then I remembered this verse;

Psalm 42:7 (NIV)

Deep calls to deep

in the roar of your waterfalls;

All your waves and breakers

have swept over me.

I absolutely love this verse. It reminds me that I have a spirit-bond with the King of the Universe. The author of creation, the Alpha and Omega, calls to me at a soul-level, and wants that kind of connection with me.

It’s an overwhelming thought at times. This verse describes that overwhelming feeling of God’s presence so well, “All your waves and breakers have swept over me”!

When I find myself distracted by the details of everyday life, or the inconveniences and chores start weighing on me, I like to stop and remember this verse. Yes, I have to return a voicemail and respond to some emails at work, and fold laundry and clean the cat box, but I can also pause for a minute. When I think on this verse, I want to breathe deeply, close my eyes, and listen to His call, which is more beautiful than any whale song or symphony. I can reach out to that deep connection, and dive into His glory. It reminds me that I am His, fully known, cherished, and loved.

And then, I still have to go clean the litter box!
